about

Fear is about being forced to deal with the consequences of years of political inaction and inequality. this is an even heavier burden for black folks. our systems are failing people of color every single day. every single black person deserves to live their lives without Fear. we have an obligation to make a difference by speaking out and making actionable change. ⁣

this song was born from a panic attack i had about one week before lockdown in NY. i was still commuting to the city, and this eerie feeling began to set in as i walked through the streets and subway stations. i could feel the anxiety of all the cityfolk becoming more palpable by the day. Fear began to snowball inside me, building and becoming nearly unbearable. ⁣
⁣
i knew i wasn't alone in feeling this way. my generation was raised by Fear, and this constant feeling of dread clouds us. we are forced to deal with the consequences of years of political inaction, environmental destruction, and inequality. but i wanted to send a message of hope too... that if we keep working and speaking our minds, that we can still create a lasting impact to help our loved ones and those who come after us. this song helped me face my Fears. and i hope that it helps you face yours, as well. ⁣

lyrics

My generation was raised by fear
Born to dread the coming years

I can’t quiet my anxiety
With loved ones under quarantine

Although the earth will keep on turning
I can’t raise a kid in a world that’s burning

Harbor guilt from using plastic
As if it disappears by magic

And the older ones dare ask us why
When they keep turning a blind eye

I can’t think about the universe
And sometimes I feel like we’re cursed

I want to hope, I want to lead
But someone’s gotta plant the seed
I want to hope, I want to lead
But someone’s gotta plant the seed

My generation was raised by fear
Born to dread the coming years

I can’t quiet my anxiety
With loved ones under quarantine

Although the earth will keep on turning
I can’t raise a kid in a world that’s burning

Harbor guilt from using plastic
As if it disappears by magic

And the older ones dare ask us why
When they keep turning a blind eye

I can’t think about the universe
And sometimes I feel like we’re cursed

I want to hope, I want to lead
But someone’s gotta plant the seed
I want to hope, I want to lead
But someone’s gotta plant the seed
